7 Questions You Must Ask Your Pool Builder

Making the decision to build a pool can quickly become overwhelming, what questions should you ask?  Backyard Oasis can help!  We have been building pools for 35 years and have compiled the most important questions you should ask when interviewing a Pool Builder.

  1. Business Information and Experience
How long has your company been in business?  How long has your company been at this location? If your project is unique, like a lazy river for example, ask the builder about their level or experience with specialty projects and if they can share details of projects, they have completed.

We have 35 years of experience in the pool industry and we are celebrating our 20th anniversary at our current location in Tomball!

  1. Customer References
Do you have a list of customer references I can contact? Can I see a project like mine that you have done before?

During our first consultation we will give you a list of customer references. We have photos of our projects to show you during your presentation and have even taken customers to see previous projects in person.

  1. Reviews and Ratings
Where can I see your customer reviews?

Be sure to check the pool builder’s online reviews and ask questions about negative reviews you read on Google, Yelp, or Yellow Pages.

  1. Workmanship Warranty
What specifically does the pool builder’s warranty cover? What does the warranty not cover? What happens if a repair is needed?

We offer a lifetime transferrable warranty of the Gunite shell of the pool, a 10-year warranty on the PebbleTec finish inside the pool, 3 year warranty on Pentair pool equipment, 2 year warranty on Paramount in-floor cleaning equipment, and a 1 year warranty on all workmanship and materials.

  1. Installation Practices
Does the swimming pool builder have any installation or construction practices that distinguish them from the competition?

We are second generation family owned and operated so we treat each customer like family. Our crews have been with us since day one and they are second generation now too! We have highly skilled craftsmen and superintendents monitoring the project from start to finish. We strive to be simply the best.

  1. Design and Project Planning
How long will the design take? How soon can we start? How long will the project take to complete?

The turn around for the design and pricing differs for every project and depends on the complexity, it is usually ready around 7-10 days after your first consultation. When you sign your contract, we immediately start processing the paperwork for permits and your HOA, once all permits are approved and your loan if applicable is closed, we are usually able to start 10-14 days after approval.

  1. Pricing and Contract
Should I expect any other costs not outlined in the quote or contract?

Whenever possible, the price for all work should be included in the contract or at the very least as a formal quote. There are some things that are out of our control and cannot be expected. We try our very best to be prepared and to prepare our customers for anything that may arise during the construction process.
